The Preppie Murder
Originally aired Sept. 24th, 1989

This tv movie, written and directed by John Herzfeld came out the same year as "The Ryan White Story", and one can argue that these movies sparked the trend of docudramas that peaked with the Amy Fisher movies and continued through the O.J. Simpson trial. Herzfeld also directed the Ryan White movie, and would go on to make "Casualties of Love: The Long Island Lolita Story", featuring Alyssa Milano as Amy Fisher. Noelle had already worked with Herzfeld on 1987's "Daddy".

This movie recalled the strange case of preppie student Robert Chambers (William Baldwin), suave on the surface, but deep down a violent coward who preyed on female students. He was tried and acquitted of strangling a girl while on a date, but the troubling question remained of whether it was deliberate, and whether he had a shred of remorse about it.

Noelle plays Betsy, seen above arguing with Sandra Bullock. Sandra actually has only a bit part in this film.

Betsy is surrounded by beautiful coeds who keep falling for this creep. Above, she's seen with another one played by Lisanne Falk (who played one of the title roles in "Heathers").

Betsy isn't fooled for a minute by this Chambers guy. She tries to clue in her friend, Jennifer Levin (a naive Lara Flynn Boyle), to no use. If you want an idea of Noelle's height, William Baldwin (above) is 6'1". Accessory watch: thick wrist bands of pearls, and elaborate big stone rings when in court.

Betsy can't believe her ears when she hears all the gals talk about what a dreamboat Chambers is. The guy's a whimp, and obviously a loser! (There's a great soundclip from this scene I'll upload in a bit)

For now, I'm showing these scenes way out of order--which will be cleared up later. Here's Betsy's first appearance. She does enjoy the nightlife! Above, Chambers crashes and burns when he runs into her. Noelle has a pretty prominent role in this film, sharing screentime with just about everyone in this unusually star-studded tv movie. Another star is Danny Aiello as the investigator, and Noelle chews up the scenery when she confronts him in the squadroom. There's also quite a bit of drama in the courtroom, when she has to testify against Chambers.
