"The Passion Of Our Youth"

Originally aired October 7th, 1995

Rediscovering the passions of our youth, the romantic paths not taken, is the subject of Alex's latest talk show, and the theme of this episode. She immediately confronts her own past when her college beau, and almost-husband, shows up out of the blue. They almost got married before his anti-war activism led to his involvement in a bombing fatality that put him on the run for decades. Now he reappears with his passion for Alex intact, and the cops hot on his heels. Meanwhile, Georgie has to deal with her son's reaction when he meets her new boyfriend, who's nearly his age. Alex's daughter Reed finds herself on the run as well, full of misguided passion which serves as the comic relief among all this bitter reckoning.

Reed
Reed has spent the past week since her mother ousted her in the comfortable arms of the Windsor House, a swank hotel in Winnetka. She's been enjoying its hospitality like any other wealthy guest, except Reed has no money, something the hotel's concierge wants to discuss: "Excuse me, Miss?"
Reed
Reed: "Me?"
Concierge: "Yes, you. Are you going somewhere?"
Reed
Reed: "Huh. I guess we're all going somewhere, in the cosmic sense."
Before she continues her journey, the concierge suggests, she might want to settle her bill, which includes indulgent gift shop purchases, exhorbitant room service charges, and excessive long distance calls. "Time to pay up!"
Reed
Reed: "But I gave you my credit card when I checked in."

The concierge informs her it's actually stolen. Reed is shocked, until he makes it clear he thinks she stole it.

Reed: "Are you saying that I walked into Marshall Fields and waited until some poor unsuspecting woman wasn't looking and grabbed her Visa card out of her purse?!"

Concierge: [baffled] "No--are you?"

Reed: "Do you have any idea who I am?!"

Concierge: "No!!"

Reed: "Good!!"
Reed spins on her heels and runs through the crowd.
Reed
Concierge: "Hey!!"
Reed pauses: "Oh! And you can put the tericloth robe on my bill, too!"
Reed
Reed: "It's fa-a-abulous!!"
Concierge: "Wait a minute!!!"
Reed
Concierge: "Stop that woman!!"
Reed
"Stop her!!!!"
