Tying together all the loose ends on a chart, they discover it all has to do with businessman McCullum trying to save money on faulty construction, using the mob to cover up evidence.

Frances has an idea. "Oh, she's beaming it in!" London says. A double set of records exist at the Commissioner's office. They'd have to break in to find it, though. Fortunately, she already knows how, since she always used to forget her keys.

As an out-of-shape John is led around the dimly-lit halls of bureacracy by a madwoman, London and Linda keep a look out, while keeping up their rivalry.

The sun rises, and the mob shows up. One of the bad guys hangs onto the back of John's getaway car and fires shots into the passenger area. London improvises again, tossing her shoes at his head. They manage to get away, back to the Daily Gazette to file a story, but the mob tracks them down, and the chase resumes.

London is left out, but she catches up by hailing a cab and instructing him on how to run a car chase. She nearly pulls it off, until the cab gets dinged and the driver gives up.

We're back where we started, at the CCU factory, except now McCullum (above) has John and Linda at gunpoint. It seems to be over, except: "Your reporter friend is eluding us. Where might she be?"

She might be right above their heads, watching.

This time, though, she doesn't have to improvise. She has a gun now, which frees up her friends, and a chase ensues. London scatters shots behind her as she flees, and fortunes turn many times as the three of them play cat and mouse with the bad guys.

It all works out in the end, of course! John gets his big story in the Metro Examiner, and London is back working the beat at his side. They're shocked when neurotic Frances greets them on the sidewalk, all dressed and ready for a prestigious job at a big financial institution. London sums it up: "That's our real story right there!"
