"Deceit"

Originally aired October 28th, 1995

Teddy (Sela) starts a relationship with her dedicated but somewhat pompous doctor, Gabe (Stephen Collins). Georgie and her young boyfriend Brian spend a weekend together (and hiding that fact from her naturally curious sisters), and Alex's producer (Nora Dunn) has a baby girl (with sperm donated by "Big Al", Alex's husband). Alex helps her own baby girl, Reed, get a job as a saleswoman, but the only thing Reed's good at selling is deceit!

Deceit
Now securely situated in Cat's apartment, Reed pays her mother a visit, apparently just to make amends. The subject of her own daughter comes up, and Reed effectively tugs at her mother's heartstrings when she states her desire to regain custody of little Halsey. Hearing this, Alex is now eager to help. But Reed says she doesn't need anything, though a steady job would strengthen her position in a custody case (Noelle cut her hair for this third episode, and kept it that way, with some variations in style).
Deceit
"Try a little "Deceit" today?" Reed's mother gets her a job at a women's boutique, where she spritzes perfume samples on passing shoppers, without much luck. She commiserates with Kiki, her fellow salesgirl, on deceitful men, and they start to long for a sugar daddy who will wait on their needs.
Deceit
Georgie pops in for a visit and a sample. "Nothing personal, but like the ad says, If you wear cotton undies, you can't wear Deceit!" Reed warns her. But it looks like Aunt Georgie is ready for a change. She picks up a bottle and heads for the lingerie department. What's she up to?
Deceit
Another day, another spritz of "Deceit". Reed is not having much luck in the retail world. Some frumpy guy, the unfortunately-named Mr. Feldgrabber, wants his money back. He just spent a bundle on his new girl, who decided the perfume stinks, and so does he. Aren't there any women left who appreciate a little pampering? Reed suddenly remembers her previous conversation with Kiki, and offers to set him up with her after work. Just then, Teddy and Alex pay a visit, looking for a new perfume. Why not try Deceit, suggests Reed. Aunt Georgie liked it. Along with her new lingerie. Stunned to hear this, the gals compare fibs, then realize Georgie's got a thing going on.
Deceit
Reed seems to be getting the hang of this spritzing thing. Still not making a lot of sales, though. Wonder how Kiki's date with Mr. Feldgrabber went last night?
Deceit
It went very well, in fact. Kiki drags herself in wearing yesterday's clothes, with many words to describe Mr. Feldgrabber's fine qualities as a man, most of those words having to do with being extremely wealthy. She starts to freshen up her eyeliner when she spots Mr. Feldgrabber entering the store. Not wanting to ruin a good thing, Kiki has Reed stall for time while she finishes neatening up in back (Kiki is played by Melissa Young, an actress who would later appear on the game show "Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire--she lost out to Darva Conger, and no, I'm not joking, it's true!) .
Deceit
But Mr. Feldgrabber didn't come in to see Kiki. He just wanted to complete the deal. He stuffs $500 in Reed's hands. "That's the going rate, isn't it? For services rendered?"
Deceit
Reed objects, and tries to point out the misunderstanding when Mr. Feldgrabber stuffs a few more C notes in her hands. He's impressed: "You're quite a businesswoman!"
Looks like Reed found a way to sell deceit after all.
