This episode didn't immediately follow "Hero". First, another episode, "Dying Affection", featuring Kevin Sorbo ( the lead in "Hercules, The Legendary Journeys") as a psychopath aired, then this conclusion to the Monica/Detective Pentangeli storyline.
The episode's title comes from Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice, Act 2, scene 7:
A Prince, in order to win the hand of Portia, must find her picture in one of three boxes, made of gold, silver and lead. He chooses the gold one, but instead finds a note which reads:
